On
August 16th, 2003, a member of the Groovaloos, Steven "Boogieman"
Stanton, was shot at a Vancouver nightclub in Canada. He was
out dancing at a club with some of his students in celebration
of a successful week of classes when the shots started to fly.
A stray bullet hit Steven in the back. Three people lost their
lives, Steven was seriously injured. He's undergone surgery
to stabilize vertebrae damaged in the shooting and has now begun
his lengthy rehabilitation process.

(Thanks Jo & Alex for the details below)
As of today, Steven has more feeling in his legs, although he still
has very little feeling in his feet. He is able to move his legs,
but his feet are still being stubborn. This accounts to his nerves
being "pinched off" from the swelling in his back near his
spine. He had surgery on Monday the 18th of August, and he is recovering
well from that. The surgery was to help repair his vertebrae that
were damaged from the bullet. He now has a couple of steel rods and
plates to give his spine some more support. His spirits are incredibly
high! He has the highest hopes, and the best attitude on everything.
He has incredible support from the dancer community in Vancouver and
all over the world. People have been writing in from Kuwait, Toronto,
New York, Los Angeles and all across Canada to give words of encouragement.
Steven is extremely grateful to everyone who has sent emails, written
on forums, sent in donations and ESPECIALLY for all of the prayers
he has been receiving! Please keep 'em coming! Everything helps out
so much!

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED:
Dear Friends,
Steven Stanton (better known to the Groovaloos as "Boogieman")
was in Vancouver, Canada teaching at Harbour Dance Studio. He went
to a club Friday night (August 15th) and was caught it some crossfire
that broke out inside the club.He was shot in the lower back/upper
buttock. He underwent a successful operation Monday to stabilize his
back. His family tells us he is doing well. The doctors are saying
that it will be a lengthy recovery with a lot of physical therapy.
His spirits are good. He has family by his side and Bradley was able
to visit him as well. His Groovaloo family & other friends in
Los Angeles had a gathering Saturday night to pray, sign a big card,
and gather donations for his expenses.
Boogieman
lives & breathes dance. He has all his life. This is all Steven
has done for years. Anything we all can do to help would be greatly
appreciated by Steven and his family. We are planning some future fundraisers
at Millennium Dance Complex. Check back here for more information
as it develops.
